SCHUGAR / SCHENKER - Under Construction
(Self released~2003)
This 8 track "demo" smokes the whole way through ! I wouldn´t even call it a demo since the production is superb and songwriting courtesy of Michael Schenker excellent. Actually everything about it is great ! Hehe. Everything you need that makes a great Heavy Rock album is present here: great vibe, tearing solos, driving riffs and simplistic (but in a good way) songs that render themselves quick to memory. You´ll find yourself singing along by the second spin ! "Under Construction" is chock full of hooks that get your body moving and Amy´s demanding, crisp and powerful vocals make a great contrast to the metallic riffing. This girl´s got more "balls" than half the European Power Metal bands on the circuit today and could probably kick their asses too ! The vocal melodies she has written are addicting, drag you right into the music and are my favourite part of the whole album. Once you hear her voice it´ll be stuck in your head like a pleasant memory. On one song, 'All I Got' all I could think of was that she sort of sounded like the guy from RUSH. These 2 musicians make an excellent pairing and I surely will pick up everything else that they offer in the future. This ending has nothing to do with the music but I just want to give a "hell yeah" to Amy for something I read in the thanks list about the fuckheads who treat cashiers like crap. I have been a cashier lots of times in the early 90s and even walked out of one of my jobs because of mistreatment by a customer so I appreciate the very special "fuck you" to these rude people. Recommended songs: 'Back Through The Window', 'High Cost', the fist pumping, spanish accentuated 'Love & Danger' and 'Victim Of The System'.
